German Ak 47 - Machine gun 43, machine gun 44 and assault gun 44 (MG43, MG44 and StG44 respectively) are names for light automatic machine guns developed from the Mkb 42(H) by Germany during World War II as part of the Maschinenkarabiner (automatic carbines) program. . The many names for the successor to the Mkb 42(H) were the result of the complex bureaucracy in Nazi Germany.
MG43, MG44 and StG 44 are almost identical weapons with minor differences in brand and date of manufacture. The last, the StG44, was called an assault rifle. It combines the advantages of submachine guns and automatic rifles. The Dutch translation for this type is a shotgun.

The combination of the weapon's small shape and design allowed the weapon to be used as a submachine gun at close range, while being more accurate than the weapon at long range. Compared to the recoilless rifle, its shorter range was not a major problem during WWII as many of the battles took place in close proximity to towns and villages.
Before the StG44 entered the Wehrmacht, it was specially designed with submachine guns and bolt-action rifles like the MP38/40 and the Karabiner 98k. However, today only a small part of the Bundeswehr can be armed. An "assault rifle" was badly needed during World War II. Now, as in World War I, you don't kill each other from miles away, but soldiers from both sides sometimes live in the same village, town, or forest area. The MP38/MP40 was already designed specifically for such situations, but didn't work for long. The StG44 replaces both the MP40 and the Mauser Karabiner 98k. While not a reliable weapon, it was highly maneuverable and had enough firepower to sustain the Allied advance.
The Assault Rifle 44 is considered the best automatic rifle of World War II. It is the leader of the AK-47 and all other firearms currently available (including the M16).
